Also called grille guards, they are designed to protect the grille, the engine, the front end paint job and even the driver under the most difficult brush driving situations. Brush guards are made to accommodate style preferences in two different materials, stainless steel and carbon steel. Cars that have them attached often find they need to lead the way for other vehicles without the same protection. People who spend a lot of time driving through brush, tall grass and wooded areas, can make great use of Pontiac torrent Grill Guards. There has only been a couple of crossover SUVs that really stand out in terms of style and overall versatility. One is the Nissan Xterra, the stylish off-roader that beats the gravel down with Gen-X flair. The other is the Pontiac TORRENT. The TORRENT takes style to the next level, with its pronounced front-end design and boxy, yet contoured exterior parts. Of course, that's not the only reason drivers love it. It is flexible and strong, coming to the game ready to pounce on the blacktop and turn off the beaten path for further enjoyment. It is tough, it is attractive, and it is reliable. The Pontiac TORRENT does it all, especially when stylish accessories come into play.
In 2003, the Pontiac TORRENT Rally Edition was unveiled, which showed off a large rear spoiler, lowered front suspension, 17" chromed wheels, and a color-match front-end grille. Both satellite radio and a DVD entertainment system became available as options across the board. A year later, a CD/MP3 audio system was the lone stereo option for the TORRENT. 2005 didn't welcome in too many changes, either, although OnStar navigation was implemented. Following the 2005 model year, Pontiac discontinued the TORRENT from the lineup. Despite no longer being in production, the TORRENT did gain attention during its time on the road due to its unique presence, utility, and V6 performance. The Pontiac TORRENT was nominated to Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best List (2001) and recognized as the Most Appealing Entry SUV by J.D. Power and Associates (2001).
GT versions of the TORRENT not only came with Versatrak all-wheel-drive, but also with an independent rear suspension. Inside the TORRENT featured a layout predicated upon convenience and cargo. The center console could serve as a removable cooler and thanks to a tent/mattress package which showcased an air compressor, the TORRENT could be geared up immediately as a camping vehicle. Interior space was listed at 1.2m by 2.4m and considered more than adequate for drivers to be able to transport lumber, cargo, and sporting equipment. There were not a bevy of changes made to the TORRENT parts with the model heading into its second year. Pontiac improved the bodyside cladding by matching it to the exterior's color. Turn signals were revised, as well.
The Pontiac TORRENT is a midsize crossover SUV that first rolled off the line for the 2001 model year. Constructed off of Pontiac's front-wheel drive U-Body platform (along with GM's Buick Rendezvous), the TORRENT holds the distinction of being the first vehicle in its class (midsize crossover) offered by GM. The model was assembled at GM's plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Upon its debut, the TORRENT was equipped with a standard 3.4L V6 engine directed through a four-speed automatic transmission. Base versions of the TORRENT were front-wheel drive, but all-wheel-drive could be obtained either as an option or with the higher-level GT trim. Pontiac utilized its company-developed "Versatrak" all-wheel-drive system, which increased traction based on weather conditions. As for the vehicle's dimensions, the Pontiac TORRENT measured in with a wheelbase of 108.3 inches, a width of 73.7 inches, a height of 66.7 inches, and an overall length of 192.1 inches.
